On June 27, 2023, at approximately 8:18 p.m., deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Pico Rivera station responded to a "shots fired" call in the 9400 block of Underwood Street, near Whittier and Passons boulevards in Pico Rivera, California. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Mark Luna lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to his upper body. Despite prompt medical attention, Luna was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:34 p.m.
