On July 27, 2023, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Oakland police responded to reports of a person down near 7th Avenue and International Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered 49-year-old Satyan Dave, a British national from Hendon, London, suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, Dave was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dave, a father of two and former British Army paratrooper, was employed as a maritime security guard.
He had arrived in Oakland just hours earlier aboard a container ship, following assignments in regions prone to piracy near Somalia. Reports suggest that prior to the incident, Dave had been out for dinner and was returning to his ship when he was fatally shot near the Port of Oakland.
In the months following the homicide, the Oakland Police Department released surveillance images of a person of interest in connection with the case, seeking the public's assistance in identifying the individual. Despite these efforts, no arrests have been made, and the suspect remains unidentified.
