On August 4, 2023, at approximately 10 a.m., 23-year-old Van Michael "Raider" Turner was fatally shot near the 800 block of McKenzie Avenue in Watsonville, California. Responding to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots, officers discovered Turner near a sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical assistance, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Turner, a resident of Watsonville, was known for his involvement in the local rap scene.
In the wake of his death, family and friends established a memorial altar at the site of the shooting, adorned with flowers, candles, and photographs to honor his memory. A family member noted that Turner had attended Pajaro Valley High School, where he excelled in football, and was remembered for his artistic talents, contagious smile, and extensive circle of friends.
