In the early hours of August 15, 2023, Oxnard police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1600 block of East First Street. Upon arrival at approximately 12:40 a.m., they discovered 28-year-old Diego Espinoza suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Espinoza was promptly transported to Ventura County Medical Center, where, despite extensive lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced deceased around 6:40 a.m.
