On September 9, 2023, at approximately 4:08 a.m., Pomona Police Department officers responded to a call for assistance from the fire department in the 1200 block of South Thomas Street. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals, a man and a woman, suffering from gunshot wounds. Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were already on the scene and pronounced both victims deceased.
The female victim was identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office as 30-year-old Pomona resident, Erendira Montes Rocha. The identity of the male victim was not immediately released. The coroner's office determined the manner of death for both individuals to be homicide, caused by gunshot wounds.
Detectives from the Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Unit initiated an extensive investigation into the double homicide.
