On October 22, 2023, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 15100 block of South White Avenue, situated between Atlantic Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard in East Rancho Dominguez, an area adjacent to Compton. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Jose Bustos lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds to his lower body. Despite prompt medical attention, Bustos was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:19 p.m.
