On August 8, 2017, 28-year-old Alfred Mitchell Jr. was shot and killed in a mass shooting in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood. The incident occurred during a neighborhood barbecue, where gunfire erupted, injuring six other individuals. Mitchell, who was among those struck by the gunfire, was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
