On November 26, 2023, at approximately 1:45 a.m., 51-year-old Binh "Ben" Quoc Do, co-owner of the Sacto By Night nightclub in Sacramento, California, was fatally shot outside his establishment. The incident occurred in the 7100 block of Governor's Circle as patrons were leaving the venue. A group of individuals, identified by authorities as gang members, initially refused to leave the club at closing time.
Once outside, an altercation ensued, during which one of the gang members opened fire, striking Do and another individual, 23-year-old Stockton resident Ryu Kai Her. Both men succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing a white vehicle fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies located the vehicle shortly thereafter and detained four individuals believed to be connected to the incident. Multiple firearms were reportedly found inside the vehicle. As of now, the identities of the detained suspects have not been publicly disclosed, and no formal charges have been announced.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Sacto By Night nightclub announced a temporary closure to honor the memory of its owner and the other victim. Do, remembered as a friendly and helpful individual with a constant smile, left behind a wife and three children, the youngest being nine years old. Friends, family, and patrons gathered outside the club to pay their respects and celebrate his life.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the case and has urged anyone with information to come forward. Community members are hopeful that the perpetrators will be brought to justice, providing some measure of closure to the grieving families.
