On January 6, 2024, in Reedley, California, authorities discovered the bodies of 81-year-old Billy Bonds and his granddaughter-in-law, 44-year-old Guadalupe "Kiki" Bonds, at their residence on South Church Avenue. Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Further investigation led to the discovery of Billy's son, 61-year-old Darrell Bonds, buried in a shallow grave in the backyard.
The following day, the body of Billy's grandson, 43-year-old Matthew Bonds, was found in a detached garage at a neighboring property.
The Reedley Police Department swiftly initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of a 17-year-old male neighbor on four counts of homicide. The suspect's mother, 34-year-old Brynn Curtis, and her boyfriend, 21-year-old Rafael Gonzalez, were also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact. Authorities believe the juvenile did not act alone and are actively seeking additional suspects or individuals with pertinent information.
The motive for these heinous crimes appears to be linked to a burglary. Upon initial examination of the Bonds' residence, police found a pried-open safe with missing firearms and personal belongings. Some of these items were later recovered at the suspect's home. Autopsy reports confirmed that all four victims died from gunshot wounds.
This tragic event has deeply affected the Reedley community, where Billy Bonds was a well-known figure, having worked as a custodian and bus driver for the Kings Canyon Unified School District. A vigil was held in front of the Bonds' home to honor the memory of the family members who were tragically lost.
