On January 31, 2024, at approximately 3:07 p.m., officers from the Arroyo Grande Police Department responded to reports of gunshots at the Cortina d'Arroyo Grande Senior Apartments, located at 241 North Courtland Street in Arroyo Grande, California. Upon arrival, they discovered 57-year-old apartment manager Cambria Grant deceased in the complex's office from apparent gunshot wounds.
The suspect, identified as 66-year-old resident David Falcon, had barricaded himself inside his apartment following the shooting. A standoff ensued, lasting approximately three and a half hours, during which crisis negotiators attempted to establish communication. At one point, Falcon severed communications with the negotiators. The Regional SWAT team was deployed to the scene and, upon entering the apartment using a robotic device, found Falcon deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
