On February 20, 2024, a devastating fire engulfed the residence of 75-year-old Linda Mercurio in Little River, California. The four-story, wood-framed house collapsed into the basement due to the intensity of the blaze, complicating immediate search and rescue efforts. Authorities alleged that Ms. Mercurio had been shot multiple times before the fire was ignited. Suspicion quickly fell upon her son, 39-year-old Fletcher Ross Pinkham of Santa Rosa, California. He was arrested and charged with her murder and with arson for allegedly setting the house ablaze to destroy evidence of the crime.
