On April 13, 2016, Pansy Thongban, a 28-year-old resident of Rodeo, California, tragically lost her life in what authorities have identified as a murder-suicide. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Sandy Cove Drive. According to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office, deputies responding to the scene found Thongban in the driver's seat of a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Nearby, they discovered the body of Saan Saeyang, a 30-year-old man from Hercules, who also had a gunshot wound. A handgun was found close to Saeyang's body, leading investigators to believe that he shot Thongban before turning the gun on himself.
Thongban and Saeyang were reportedly in a dating relationship, which had recently become strained. Family members and friends indicated that Thongban, a talented pastry chef at the W Hotel in San Francisco, was attempting to end the relationship. On the day of the incident, Saeyang allegedly confronted Thongban outside her home, leading to the fatal confrontation. Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots, and the scene was described as chaotic and distressing.
The investigation by the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide, with Saeyang identified as the perpetrator. There were no arrests or further suspects involved in the case, as the primary individuals were both deceased. The tragic event left the community in shock, mourning the loss of two lives and grappling with the senselessness of the violence. No additional litigations or law cases were reported following the initial investigation, and the case was closed with the determination of murder-suicide.
