Zonna Thomas, a 69-year-old resident of Rodeo, California, tragically lost her life on October 17, 2015. Zonna, who was born on June 29, 1946, was a beloved member of her community, known for her dedication to her family and her career. She spent many years working as a circulation manager for the West County Times, where she was cherished by her colleagues. Her sudden death shocked the community and left her family and friends in deep mourning.

The circumstances surrounding Zonna's death were both tragic and shocking. On the day of her death, Zonna was visited by her sister, Linda Thomas, who had traveled from Washington state. The visit, which was supposed to be a family reunion, turned into a nightmare. Linda, who had meticulously planned the visit, brought with her a firearm and other items that indicated premeditation. On October 17, 2015, Linda shot Zonna in the head while she was in the kitchen of her home. The attack was sudden and brutal, leaving Zonna with no chance of survival.

Following the murder, Linda attempted to kill Zonna's husband, Donald Thomas. However, Donald managed to wrestle the gun away from Linda and called 911. The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office responded quickly to the scene, preventing further tragedy. Linda was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and elder abuse. The case went to trial, and in May 2018, Linda was found guilty on all counts. The jury's verdict brought some measure of justice to Zonna's family, though the pain of her loss remained.

Linda's actions were later revealed to be part of a planned double-murder and suicide. She had even paid for her own obituary in a Washington newspaper before traveling to California. The trial uncovered the extent of Linda's premeditation, including the items she brought with her, such as packing tape, syringes, and a utility knife. The prosecution argued that Linda had carefully waited for the perfect opportunity to carry out her plan. The court sentenced Linda to life in prison without the possibility of parole. However, before she could serve her sentence, Linda took her own life in her jail cell in June 2018.

The tragic death of Zonna Thomas and the subsequent legal proceedings highlighted the devastating impact of familial violence. It also underscored the importance of mental health awareness and the need for support systems to prevent such tragedies. Zonna's memory lives on in the hearts of her loved ones, who continue to honor her legacy and cherish the time they had with her.
