On September 29, 2024, at approximately 12:10 a.m., 40-year-old Edward Atkins was fatally shot at an apartment complex in the 44700 block of 15th Street East, near Avenue J, in Lancaster, California. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to reports of gunfire and found Atkins deceased at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.
Atkins was not a resident of the apartment complex. Witnesses reported seeing three suspects fleeing the location before deputies arrive
