On October 27, 2024, at approximately 1:20 a.m., the Kern County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting at the Rosamond Garden Apartments, located in the 3400 block of 15th Street West in Rosamond, California. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 22-year-old Davion Jasper-Keyon "Dewey" Jackson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
In addition to Jackson, another male victim was found nearby with a gunshot wound and was also taken to Antelope Valley Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities believe the two incidents are related.
The Kern County Sheriff's Office has classified Jackson's death as a homicide and is actively seeking information from the public to aid in the investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Jackson, a resident of Rosamond, had prior legal issues. In December 2023, he was arrested on multiple firearm-related charges, including possession of an assault rifle. In 2022, he pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon other than a gun and was sentenced to three years in prison.
The community has been invited to honor Jackson's memory by lighting candles and sharing memories on an online memorial page. As of now, 46 candles have been lit in his remembrance.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible for Jackson's death.
