On October 29, 2024, 38-year-old Yolanda Catalán Pastul was found deceased from multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle located in the 800 block of South Berendo Street in Los Angeles' Koreatown neighborhood. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office classified her death as a homicide.
In connection with this crime, authorities arrested 50-year-old Marvin Magaña.
Magaña is also a suspect in the murder of 43-year-old Jorge Guerrero Hurtado, who was fatally shot in the 900 block of South Victoria Avenue, near Crenshaw and Olympic boulevards, on the same day. Following these incidents, Magaña surrendered to law enforcement and was taken into custody. He is currently held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles, with bail set at six million dollars, and has a court date scheduled for December 4.
The tragic deaths of Catalán Pastul and Guerrero Hurtado have deeply affected their families and communities. A memorial fund has been established to support their surviving children: William (16), Henry (12), and Kelsey (8) Catalán, and George and Katherine Guerrero. The fund aims to assist with funeral expenses and provide ongoing support for the children during this difficult time.
