Eloise Elizarraraz, a 34-year-old Latina, was tragically found shot to death on January 7, 2017, in Sylmar, Los Angeles. Her body was discovered inside her black BMW near Harding Street and Tripoli Avenue. According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and coroner’s records, she was shot around 8:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 9 a.m. A registered nurse who lived nearby found her and attempted to help, but it was too late.
Elizarraraz did not reside in the area but had family nearby. The police were working on identifying a motive and potential suspects, urging anyone with information to come forward.
The investigation revealed that Eloise Elizarraraz was a mother of three children and was driving to her new job as a dental assistant when she was killed. Detectives identified her ex-boyfriend, Jose Benjamin Rodriguez, as the primary suspect. Rodriguez, the father of her youngest son, had a history of domestic violence and was described as a gang member with a long criminal record. The relationship between Elizarraraz and Rodriguez was marked by jealousy and violence. Shortly before her death, Elizarraraz had informed Rodriguez of her love for another man, which reportedly angered him greatly. On the morning of the murder, Rodriguez allegedly waited for several hours near her residence before pursuing her in a stolen vehicle, running her off the road, and fatally shooting her.
Despite extensive efforts by the LAPD, including a $50,000 reward for information leading to Rodriguez's arrest, he remained at large. Investigators believed Rodriguez fled to Mexico shortly after the murder. The case highlighted the dangers of domestic violence and the challenges law enforcement faces in apprehending suspects who cross international borders. The LAPD continued to seek information from the public, emphasizing the need for witnesses to come forward to help bring justice for Eloise Elizarraraz and her family.
