On February 2, 2023, Memphis Police Officer Geoffrey Redd, aged 49, responded to a trespassing call at a business near the Poplar-White Station Library in Memphis, Tennessee. Upon arrival, Officer Redd and his partner encountered the suspect, 28-year-old Torence Jackson Jr., inside the library. As the officers attempted to engage with Jackson, he drew a firearm and shot Officer Redd, critically injuring him. In response, Redd's partner returned fire, fatally wounding Jackson.
