In the spring of 2023, the life of a young Nashville man was cut tragically short. Deshawn Lamar Talley, a 21-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on the evening of May 12th. The incident occurred in the Edgehill neighborhood, a community suddenly shattered by the sound of gunfire that some witnesses reportedly mistook for fireworks. When Metro Nashville Police Department officers responded to the calls near the intersection of Edgehill Avenue and 14th Avenue South at approximately 8 p.m.,
they discovered a somber scene. Talley was found on the back porch of a residence, having succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Investigators began to piece together the events of that evening, and a theory emerged that Talley may not have been the intended target of the shooting. The gunfire was said to have originated from the direction of 14th Avenue South, leading to the belief that this was not a direct confrontation but rather an act of violence that claimed an unintended victim. In the course of their investigation, homicide detectives identified a key piece of evidence: a black Nissan Armada believed to be the suspect vehicle. Authorities released surveillance images of this SUV to the public, hoping to generate leads that would help them identify the individuals associated with the vehicle and, ultimately, the person or persons responsible for Talley's death.
Despite the active investigation and the circulation of the suspect vehicle's description, the case has grown cold in the months that followed. The Metro Nashville Police Department has continued to appeal to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information about the black Nissan Armada or the circumstances surrounding the shooting to come forward. A cash reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this homicide case. However, to date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains an open and ongoing investigation, leaving a family and a community waiting for answers and for justice to be served for the untimely death of Deshawn Talley.
