In the early morning hours of New Year's Eve 2023, a scene of chaos and violence erupted inside Cadillac's Bar in Martin, Tennessee, ending the life of 19-year-old Cameron Houston. A resident of Union City, the young man was found on the floor of the establishment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds following an altercation and the sound of shots being fired. The incident, which occurred at approximately 1:23 a.m., sent patrons scrambling for safety and left Houston in critical condition.
Emergency responders rushed Cameron Houston to West Tennessee Healthcare Volunteer Hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe. He succumbed to the gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 1:58 a.m. The community was left in shock by the sudden and violent death of the teenager, who was born on June 15, 2004. The Martin Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division immediately launched a thorough investigation into the fatal shooting.
The investigation quickly led to the identification of suspects. The first arrest was made shortly after the incident, with authorities taking 22-year-old Quardarious R. Davis of Union City into custody. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, multiple counts of reckless endangerment, and unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon. As the investigation progressed, a second suspect was apprehended. On January 6, 2024, 23-year-old Shykeedra M. Love of Dyersburg was arrested in Haywood County. Love faced the same serious charges as Davis: first-degree murder, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon. Davis was initially held in the Dyer County Jail, while Love was transferred to the Weakley County Detention Center as they awaited legal proceedings for their alleged involvement in the tragic death of Cameron Houston.
