In early February 2024, the life of 33-year-old DeCarlos Sanders, a Black male from Memphis, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. His body was discovered on Sunday, February 4th, in an alleyway in the Orange Mound neighborhood, discarded amidst a pile of trash. Sanders had sustained a gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a homicide. The shocking discovery sent ripples of grief and disbelief through his family, who had last seen him on the preceding Friday.
The investigation into
Sanders' death quickly became intertwined with a second tragedy. Authorities began to explore a potential link between his murder and a nearby car fire. This led them to connect his case with that of a missing woman, Labarbara Bryson. Evidence soon pointed to a single suspect in both cases. Antonio Wolfe was identified as the last person seen with both Sanders and Bryson on February 2nd. They were reportedly traveling in Bryson's Mazda SUV. Surveillance footage later captured Wolfe driving this same vehicle shortly before it was discovered engulfed in flames.
On February 27, 2024, the investigation culminated in the arrest of Antonio Wolfe. He was taken into custody and faced a litany of serious charges related to the deaths of both DeCarlos Sanders and Labarbara Bryson. The charges filed against him included two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of murder in the perpetration of a felony, two counts of especially aggravated robbery, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, tampering with evidence, and arson. Following his arrest, Wolfe was held in the Shelby County Jail without bond as the legal process against him commenced. The community and the families of the victims were left to grapple with the senseless violence while hoping for justice to be served.
