In the summer of 2024, a grim discovery was made on the Alta Lake Greenway in Hermitage, Tennessee. On the morning of July 14th, employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers stumbled upon the unresponsive body of a young woman. The woman, later identified as 20-year-old Jamani Parker, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The Metro Nashville Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation into the suspicious death. Detectives began piecing together the events that led to Parker's demise, and their focus soon turned to her boyfriend, 35-year-old Lovelle Winton-Jones. At the time of the investigation into Parker's murder, Winton-Jones was already incarcerated, having been arrested on July 26th on nine unrelated charges that included drug possession and evading arrest.
By late September, investigators had gathered enough evidence to formally accuse Winton-Jones of Parker's murder. On Thursday, September 26, 2024, a Davidson County grand jury returned a first-degree murder indictment against him. Winton-Jones was served with the indictment while he remained in jail on his prior charges. The indictment alleges that he was responsible for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Jamani Parker, whose life was cut short in a violent act that left a community searching for answers.
