On September 9, 2024, Damonta T. Mosley, an 18-year-old male, was found shot in a vehicle in the 2400 block of Renois Lane in unincorporated Cahokia Heights, which is part of St. Clair County, Illinois. The incident occurred after 7 p.m. when deputies from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area.
Upon arrival, deputies located Damonta Mosley, who had been shot while inside the vehicle. He was immediately transported to a St.
Louis hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and died.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad to investigate Mosley’s death. The investigation was led by Lt. Shane Brown of the Belleville Police Department, with Det. Ben Vice from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and Det. Jason Frank from the Swansea Police Department involved in the case.
As a result of the investigation, a suspect was identified and charged. David F. Hodges, aged 19, was charged with 1st Degree Murder in connection with Damonta Mosley’s death.
