On January 14, 2023, the recent high school graduate was leaving a birthday party on Bellwood Avenue when he was fatally wounded. Aceyn, a 2022 graduate of Gateway High School, was a young man with a promising future, remembered by those who knew him as kind, respectful, and ambitious. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school, participating in lacrosse, wrestling, and football. After graduation, he started his own lawn care business with the intention of passing it down to his younger brother. He had also taken on a full-time job at a local Giant Eagle and was an apprentice at a custom jewelry business, where he had recently completed a special piece for his mother's birthday. Friends and family recalled his warm personality, stating he could strike up a conversation with anyone and always showed respect to others, simple acts like holding a door open for someone were part of his character. He was known for being a protective and caring older brother to his two younger siblings.
In the wake of the shooting, a Good Samaritan who lived nearby heard the gunshots and rushed to help. He and another neighbor found Ausbrook and performed CPR until paramedics arrived. This neighbor recalled hearing five or six gunshots and finding a bullet hole in his own front door. Investigators later recovered two handguns near Ausbrook's vehicle on Bellwood Avenue.
