Harold Stewart, a 63-year-old African American man, was fatally shot on October 31, 2017, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred at an apartment located at 7321 S. Oglesby in the South Shore neighborhood. Stewart had recently moved into the basement apartment of 68-year-old Lee Hall, who would later be charged with his murder. The two men had an ongoing dispute, reportedly centered around Hall’s strict rule prohibiting Stewart from having female visitors in the apartment.

On the morning of October 31, emergency responders arrived at the apartment after Hall called to report that he had found his roommate bleeding from the mouth. Paramedics discovered Stewart with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced him dead at the scene. The autopsy revealed that Stewart had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, along with multiple shots to his chest, left shoulder, right forearm, left arm, right hand, and left hand. Additionally, he had graze wounds on his left cheek and right palm. The extensive injuries indicated that he had been shot more than ten times.
Following the investigation, Lee Hall was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Forensic analysis showed that Hall’s hands tested positive for gunshot residue, further implicating him in the crime. Authorities noted that Hall had no prior criminal convictions, but given the severity of the charges, he faced the possibility of a life sentence. During his court appearance, Judge Stephanie Miller ordered Hall to be held without bail. His next court date was scheduled for August 1, 2018.
