On April 27, 2023, at approximately 6:22 p.m., 16-year-old Jaseem Thomas was shot multiple times, including wounds to his head and body, on the 2200 block of South 67th Street in Southwest Philadelphia. Responding officers transported him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition until succumbing to his injuries on May 1, 2023.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Jaseem's mother, Shanae Thomas, made the decision to donate his organs, resulting in five lives being saved. She expressed that this act ensured her son's legacy would continue, stating, "My son is living on through other people, so they did not win."
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Jaseem's death. The City of Philadelphia is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Citizens Crime Commission at 215-546-TIPS, emphasizing that all calls will remain anonymous.
