Tiffany Marie Cordwell Raymer, a 39-year-old woman from Uniontown and Fairchance, Pennsylvania, tragically passed away on June 9, 2023. Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, to Priscilla Cordwell and Jack Sapp, Tiffany's life was cut short in a devastating incident of domestic violence.
The circumstances surrounding Tiffany's death were grim. She was shot and killed in an apartment at 40 Iowa Street, Uniontown, in the early morning hours of June 9.
The Uniontown Police Department responded to the scene after receiving a call about a suspicious individual at a nearby gas station.
Danny Richard Sottile Jr., 45, Tiffany's boyfriend, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault in connection with her death. According to police reports, Sottile confessed to shooting Tiffany in the chest. He claimed they had been together since approximately 4 p.m. the previous day and had consumed methamphetamine, marijuana, and an unidentified substance he referred to as "wet".
Sottile told investigators that he became paranoid, believing Tiffany's friends were coming to rob him. He shot her in the chest after hearing noises outside the apartment. When asked how he knew he had shot her in the chest, Sottile chillingly replied, "Because that's where I was aiming." He also admitted to firing a second shot as Tiffany ran from the room, though he was unsure if it had hit her.
After the shooting, Sottile left the apartment and was seen walking shoeless around a Marathon gas station at 104 W. Fayette Street, with a gun visible in his waistband. This unusual behavior prompted calls to the police, leading to his apprehension. When police arrived at Sottile's residence, they found Tiffany Raymer, who was declared dead at 11:23 a.m.
Sottile was arraigned before District Judge Jason Cox and remanded to the Fayette County jail without bond. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 27, 2023, at 1 p.m. The case was later held for court, with police testifying that they had taken a 9 mm pistol from Sottile, noting that the magazine had been ejected before they responded to the Iowa Street home where Raymer was found with the fatal gunshot wound to her chest.
