In the late hours of a Thursday night in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, a heated argument over a woman between two men who were driving along Market Street would end in tragedy. Thirty-year-old Eliud Marrero Morales, originally from Puerto Rico, was on the phone with 18-year-old Jose Jusino-Morales on November 2, 2023, as they drove. The disagreement escalated, leading both men to stop their vehicles and confront each other in the 400 block of Market Street.
The verbal dispute quickly turned
deadly when Jusino-Morales allegedly brandished a firearm and shot Marrero-Morales. Police say as many as twelve shots were fired, and Marrero-Morales was found deceased in the middle of the street when officers arrived at the scene around 11:30 p.m. The downtown area, typically bustling with business, was cordoned off with police tape as investigators began to piece together the events of that night.
Shortly after the shooting, law enforcement located and arrested two suspects. Jose Jusino-Morales was taken into custody and charged with criminal homicide, with police identifying him as the shooter. A second individual, 21-year-old Armando Pena-Alvayero, was also arrested. Investigators believe that Pena-Alvayero was present during the murder and subsequently hid the weapon used in the crime. He faces charges of tampering with evidence and possessing a firearm without a license.
Following a preliminary hearing, the charges against Jose Jusino-Morales, including criminal homicide and tampering with evidence, were bound over for court. His co-defendant, Armando Pena-Alvayero, testified during the hearing, stating that he was in the vehicle when Jusino-Morales shot Marrero-Morales. Jose Jusino-Morales is scheduled to stand trial for the murder of Eliud Marrero Morales. Both suspects were incarcerated in the Northumberland County Jail.
