On August 15, 2024, 20-year-old Dayveon Creel of Sunbury, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot near the Northumberland County Courthouse. The incident occurred around noon, during a lunch break in an ongoing attempted homicide trial. Creel sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he was pronounced dead.
