In the early hours of a Wednesday morning, the life of 33-year-old Dontae Hatcher, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On November 15, 2023, in an apartment building in Munhall, Pennsylvania, a community near Homestead, Hatcher was shot multiple times. First responders were called to the 500 block of East Ninth Avenue shortly before 4 a.m., where they found Hatcher inside an apartment with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting led Allegheny County Police to identify a 16-year-old male, Raylon Williams, as the primary suspect. Investigators determined that Williams had not only shot Hatcher but had also threatened another individual inside the apartment at the time of the incident. The relationship between Hatcher and Williams, and a clear motive for the shooting, were not immediately made public. According to the criminal complaint, Williams and Hatcher had just met that night. After they smoked marijuana with a third person, Hatcher went to lie down in a bedroom where an infant was also present. Williams allegedly followed him into the bedroom, and gunshots were heard. The witness reported seeing Williams standing over Hatcher with a gun.

On November 30, 2023, Raylon Williams was arrested without incident. He has been charged as an adult with homicide, illegal possession of a firearm by a minor, and making terroristic threats. Following his arraignment, Williams was denied bail and is being held at the Allegheny County Jail. The case has highlighted community concerns about youth violence and the need for non-violent conflict resolution.
