Jared Lee Harpster, a 35-year-old White man from York Haven, Pennsylvania, was killed on Saturday, February 24, 2024, after a violent altercation. The incident took place around 11:20 a.m. in the 600 block of West College Avenue in York City. Harpster had gone to the residence to help his niece who was reportedly in a verbal dispute with her 17-year-old boyfriend, Andy Rico Ramos-Alicea Jr.
A physical fight broke out between Harpster, Ramos-Alicea Jr., and others at the scene.
During the confrontation, Ramos-Alicea Jr. allegedly shot Harpster. A video of the incident reportedly shows Harpster crawling away after being shot, at which point Ramos-Alicea Jr.'s father, Andy Williams Ramos-Alicea Sr., 38, allegedly stabbed him multiple times. Harpster was transported to WellSpan York Hospital with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at 1:09 p.m. An autopsy later determined the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds.
Following the incident, both Andy Ramos-Alicea Sr. and his son were charged with criminal homicide. Ramos-Alicea Sr. was arrested on the day of the incident and held in York County Prison without bail. His son, Andy Ramos-Alicea Jr., turned himself in to the police on February 27, 2024. In addition to the homicide charge, Ramos-Alicea Jr. also faces a felony count of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor for possession of a firearm by a minor. He is being charged as an adult for the homicide. Preliminary hearings for both father and son were scheduled for March 8, 2024.
