On March 16, 2024, at approximately 4:21 p.m., Pittsburgh police responded to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Penn Avenue and North Highland Avenue in East Liberty. Upon arrival, officers discovered 70-year-old Raymond Sims seated in the driver's seat of his vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and neck. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office pronounced Sims dead at the scene.
