In the early hours of May 3, 2024, the life of 35-year-old Anthony Young of Pittsburgh was tragically cut short in the city's Hill District. Responding to multiple ShotSpotter alerts just after midnight, Pittsburgh police discovered Young lying in the street at the intersection of Bedford Avenue and Watt Lane in the Bedford Dwellings neighborhood. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The investigation into the
shooting led authorities to 27-year-old Jewel Woods, also of Pittsburgh. On May 15, 2024, detectives with the Violent Crime Unit and Fugitive Apprehension Unit arrested Woods on a warrant. The arrest took place at the Munhall Magistrate's office, where Woods was present for proceedings on an unrelated matter.
Following his apprehension, Woods was transported to the Allegheny County Jail. He has been charged with criminal homicide and illegal possession of a firearm in connection with Anthony Young's death. Court records indicate that Woods was also facing charges from a separate incident in April of that year, including illegal firearm possession and receiving stolen property.
