On a Wednesday afternoon in McClure, Pennsylvania, the life of 64-year-old Carrie L. Beck Shoop was tragically cut short. The events of June 5, 2024, unfolded at a residence on Snook Road in Decatur Township, where an argument between Carrie and her estranged husband, William Edward Shoop, escalated with fatal consequences. Neighbors reported hearing a man and a woman arguing, followed by the sound of gunshots and a female voice crying out for help, prompting a call to the authorities.
When Pennsylvania State Police troopers arrived at the scene around 4:41 p.m., they found 76-year-old William Shoop behaving erratically, exiting and re-entering the home multiple times. After a tense period, Shoop eventually surrendered to the officers. He threw a rifle onto a trampoline in the yard before being taken into custody. Inside the residence, law enforcement discovered Carrie Shoop lying on the living room floor, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
In an interview with police, William Shoop admitted that the shooting was the result of a domestic argument. He was subsequently arrested and charged with criminal homicide. William Shoop was arraigned before a Magisterial District Judge and is being held without bail at the Mifflin County Correctional Facility. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
