On June 17, 2024, at approximately 12:54 a.m., Pittsburgh police responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating six rounds fired in the 3000 block of Arlington Avenue in the Arlington Heights neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered 53-year-old Shawn Marcus Czeczely lying unresponsive in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene at 1:12 a.m.
The investigation quickly led to the arrest of 37-year-old Jason Ingram on June 22, 2024.
Ingram was apprehended without incident by the Pittsburgh Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force. He was charged with criminal homicide, attempted homicide, conspiracy, burglary, reckless endangerment, and illegal possession of a firearm. Authorities allege that Ingram was directly involved in the shooting death of Czeczely.
Further developments occurred on July 17, 2024, when two additional suspects, Michael Anthony, 40, and Jonathan Robinson, 43, were arrested in connection with Czeczely's murder. Both men were taken into custody without incident by Pittsburgh Police detectives, with assistance from the Allegheny County Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force. They face charges including criminal homicide, criminal attempt homicide, conspiracy, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and recklessly endangering another person. All three suspects are being held at the Allegheny County Jail as they await preliminary hearings.
The arrests were facilitated by surveillance footage from the City of Pittsburgh Housing Authority camera system, which captured the moments leading up to and during the shooting. The footage reportedly shows Czeczely approaching his vehicle when he was fired upon, leading to his collapse at the scene. Investigators also recovered 21 nine-millimeter shell casings near the intersection of Cordell Place and Arlington Avenue, indicating the severity of the attack.
As of now, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed any potential relationships between the suspects and the victim or any possible reasons for the attack. The arrests have brought some measure of progress in the case, but many questions about the circumstances leading to Czeczely's death remain unanswered.
