In the early hours of a Thursday morning, the life of 37-year-old Kenneth Kennedy-McLeod was tragically cut short in a violent robbery. On July 11, 2024, Kennedy-McLeod was working inside the Frankford Convenience Store, located on the 1500 block of Pratt Street in Philadelphia, when two individuals entered. The incident, which occurred just after midnight, ended with Kennedy-McLeod being shot in both shoulders.
Police were called to the scene for a report of a person with a gun and discovered him wounded inside the store. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:43 a.m.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a robbery-gone-wrong, with the cash register found open and money scattered on the floor. Within days of the murder, authorities made their first arrest. Kharee Simmons, 37, was taken into custody and charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, robbery, and related offenses. While one suspect was apprehended, the second remained at large for several months.
The second suspect, identified as 43-year-old Siddeeq Shakoor, managed to evade capture until January 8, 2025. Following a lengthy manhunt, Shakoor was arrested and faced the same charges as his alleged accomplice: murder, criminal conspiracy, robbery, and weapons charges. Both men are now in custody, awaiting the legal proceedings that will determine their roles in the senseless death of Kenneth Kennedy-McLeod, who was killed while simply doing his job.
