On January 1, 2023, 49-year-old Julia Michelle Holland, a resident of Candler, North Carolina, was found deceased in the Newfound community near Canton. Holland, who worked as an Uber driver, had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the back of her head.
The Haywood County Sheriff's Office promptly initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of two individuals: 26-year-old Noah Journey McKinnley Bolden and his mother, 57-year-old Jeanie Bolden, both from Canton.
Initially, Noah was charged with concealment of death, altering or destroying criminal evidence, and felony conspiracy, while Jeanie faced charges of accessory after the fact, concealment of death, altering or destroying criminal evidence, and felony conspiracy.
As the investigation progressed, a Haywood County Grand Jury returned new indictments. On January 30, 2023, Noah Bolden was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder, and Jeanie Bolden was indicted for accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.
In October 2023, during a Rule 24 hearing in Haywood County Superior Court, it was determined that the state would not pursue the death penalty against Noah Bolden, as there was insufficient evidence of aggravating factors required for a capital case.
