On January 18, 2023, 27-year-old Mackenzie McCord Strickland was fatally shot on Southern Street in Asheville, North Carolina. Responding to reports of gunfire around 11:36 p.m., Asheville Police Department officers found Strickland with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The following day, January 19, authorities arrested 30-year-old Cody Lee Guyton in connection with the homicide. Guyton was charged with first-degree murder for Strickland's death. Investig ...
