Oyakahil Irabor, a 30-year-old male from Hendersonville. Irabor was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. The two men had a heated conflict earlier in the evening and were acquaintances, though not related. The altercation was described as targeted and isolated. Irabor was also charged with misdemeanor counts of assault by pointing a gun and simple assault, as he was accused of punching a woman in the face and head, causing injuries that required medical attention.
Nelson's death had a profound impact on his family and community. He was remembered as a loving and protective brother, with a "huge heart" and a desire to stand up for what was right. Nelson had at least four children and was living with his partner, Brandi, at the time of his death.
