On January 30, 2023, at approximately 10:07 p.m., officers from the Spring Lake Police Department responded to a reported home invasion in the 100 block of South Fourth Street in Spring Lake, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 26-year-old resident Charles Michael Conley had been fatally shot. Emergency medical personnel pronounced Conley dead at the scene.
