On February 7, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Fayetteville police responded to a shooting incident in the 1100 block of Bunce Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men, 26-year-old Terrance Jaiquann Melvin and 33-year-old Johnathan Alexander McMillian, deceased from gunshot wounds inside the residence. A six-month-old infant girl, identified as Melvin's daughter, was also found critically injured with multiple gunshot wounds.
She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the following morning.
Investigations revealed that the shooting was not a random act; all parties involved were known to each other. Preliminary findings suggest that an argument between Melvin and McMillian escalated, leading to the fatal shootings. The exact nature of their relationship and the cause of the dispute remain unclear. Authorities have not disclosed specific details about the events leading up to the incident.
In the days following the tragedy, law enforcement agencies, including the Fayetteville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, executed a search warrant at the Bunce Road residence. This operation resulted in the seizure of six firearms—two of which were reported stolen—as well as ammunition and items indicating gang activity. Three individuals were arrested during the raid:
- **Larry Donshonti Portis**, 36, charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, and two counts of possession of a stolen firearm.
- **Dontravieus Lendale McMillian**, 27, charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
- **Brandon Terrez Lilly**, 38, arrested on a charge of probation violation.
Despite these arrests related to firearm offenses, no charges directly connected to the triple homicide have been filed. Authorities have not indicated that the individuals arrested during the raid are suspects in the murders. The investigation into the deaths of Melvin, McMillian, and the infant girl remains active and ongoing. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in resolving the case.
