On March 6, 2023, at approximately 9:15 p.m., 29-year-old Raymund Alexander Graham was fatally shot in the 5600 block of Medicus Lane in Hope Mills, North Carolina. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
In the ensuing investigation, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office identified and arrested two individuals connected to Graham's death. On May 12, 2023, 37-year-old Zakela Vontel Oglesby of Hope Mills was charged with accessory after the fact, felony child abuse causing serious bodily injury, and obstructing justice. She was detained in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond.
Subsequently, in June 2023, a juvenile suspect was served with a secure custody order for first-degree murder in connection with Graham's death. Due to legal protections for minors, the juvenile's identity and specific details about their involvement have not been publicly disclosed.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities have previously sought information from the public, including attempting to locate individuals such as 19-year-old Skylar Stanley of Fayetteville, who may have information pertinent to the case.
Graham's death has had a profound impact on his family and the Hope Mills community. He is survived by his parents, Reamond and Alesia Covington-Graham; his daughter, Ella Mae Garner; and numerous siblings and extended family members. Funeral services were held on March 19, 2023, at Wiseman Mortuary Chapel in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
As the investigation remains active, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office encourages anyone with information related to the case to come forward to assist in bringing closure to Graham's family and ensuring justice is served.
