On March 27, 2023, at approximately 1:37 a.m., deputies from the Onslow County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of gunfire at 442 Hunters Green Drive in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered two male individuals with gunshot wounds. Both victims were promptly transported to the Naval Hospital Trauma Center at Camp Lejeune.
Tragically, 20-year-old Ky'Waun Cordarius Ullysses Warner succumbed to his injuries.
Warner was a part-time resident of the Hunters Green Drive address and also had ties to Clinton, North Carolina. The second victim, a 16-year-old male who resided full-time at the same address, sustained serious injuries but was expected to recover. Due to his age, authorities withheld his identity.
The circumstances leading to the shooting remain under active investigation by the Onslow County Sheriff's Office. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities have appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area to come forward.
In the wake of this tragedy, Warner's family and friends mourned his untimely passing. A Homegoing Celebration was held on March 31, 2023, at Lee's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Maple Hill, North Carolina, followed by interment at the Holmes Family Cemetery. Warner was remembered as a beloved son of Prentis D. Bannerman and Crystal T. Warner, whose life was tragically cut short.
