On April 10, 2023, 21-year-old Jaheim KeiSean Neal was fatally shot at Oakbrook Court Apartments in Reidsville, North Carolina. Responding officers found Neal with gunshot wounds and attempted lifesaving measures, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The Reidsville Police Department's investigation led to the arrest of 19-year-old Clifton Earl Dawes Jr., a resident of Hamlin Street in Eden, North Carolina.
Dawes was charged with second-degree murder and placed in the Rockingham County Jail under a $1,000,000 secured bond, with a court date set for April 18, 2023. Authorities indicated that the incident stemmed from a dispute among a group of individuals, escalating into unnecessary violence, and was not a random act.
Jaheim Neal was a native and lifelong resident of Rockingham County. He attended public schools in High Point, where he developed a passion for basketball, football, baseball, and video games. He is survived by his parents, Bridgette Neal, Janice Neal Dowd, and Jerry L. Dowd; his maternal grandmother, Darlene Neal; his maternal great-grandmother, Christine Neal; and special friends Justin, Caleb, and Arthur. Funeral services were held on April 18, 2023, at Cornerstone Christian Center in Reidsville.
