On October 18, 2023, at approximately 5:50 a.m., Reidsville Police responded to reports of a shooting on the 800 block of Barnes Street in Reidsville, North Carolina. Upon arrival, officers found 25-year-old Timothy Ray Kuchinski suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on October 23, 2023.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 39-year-old James Dwight McDaniel Jr. as the primary suspect. Warrants were issued for his arrest, charging him with first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injuries, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. McDaniel was considered armed and dangerous, prompting a multi-state search.
On January 14, 2024, McDaniel was apprehended in Aurora, Colorado. He was taken into custody without incident and awaited extradition to Rockingham County to face the charges against him.
The relationship between Kuchinski and McDaniel remains unclear, and authorities have not disclosed a potential motive for the shooting. Family members of Kuchinski have expressed their grief and a desire for justice, remembering him as a caring individual who was loved by many.
A public viewing for Timothy Kuchinski was held on November 1, 2023, at Perry Spencer Funeral Home in Eden, North Carolina, followed by a funeral service on November 2, 2023. He is survived by his parents, Cindy Campbell and Timothy John Kuchinski, and other family members.
