Upon arrival, they discovered two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, identified as 21-year-old Durham resident Desean Monroe, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The incident marked the third homicide in Durham within a single week, underscoring a troubling surge in violent crime in the area. Earlier that week, on May 17, 30-year-old Shanell Nicole Alston was fatally shot at the Chapel Tower apartment complex, and on May 25, 19-year-old Zion Craig Bowden was killed in a shooting on Ganyard Farm Way.
In the aftermath of Monroe's death, the Durham Police Department initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Preliminary findings suggested that the incident was not random, indicating a possible connection between the victims and the perpetrator(s).
