On the night of May 24, 2023, at approximately 10:25 p.m., the Rocky Mount Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 200 block of Park Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 36-year-old LaKendrick Terell Powell, who had been fatally shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
