On June 2, 2023, at approximately 12:06 a.m., an altercation occurred at the Cook Out restaurant located on North Wesleyan Boulevard in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. During this incident, 19-year-old Tahagi Brown sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, where he was listed in critical condition.
The assailant was identified as a 16-year-old female employee of the restaurant.
Investigators determined that there was no prior relationship between Brown and the juvenile suspect. Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene but was apprehended shortly thereafter at a residence on Hammond Street. She was charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. Authorities noted that the suspect is a validated gang member.
The Rocky Mount Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. They have urged anyone with additional information to come forward by contacting the department directly or through Crime Stoppers for potential cash rewards.
