On July 4, 2023, in New Bern, North Carolina, 19-month-old Nia'Loni Shakira Ariana Sheptock was fatally shot while seated in a car with her father, 22-year-old Nathan Sheptock. The incident occurred around 9:51 p.m. near the 1100 block of Main Street. Both victims were transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center, where Nathan was treated and released, while Nia'Loni was later transferred to ECU Health Medical Center.
