On July 10, 2023, at approximately 7:04 a.m., Durham police responded to a report of a gunshot wound in the 2200 block of NC Highway 54. Upon arrival, officers discovered 55-year-old Johnny Lloyd Banks Jr., a resident of Raleigh, who had been fatally shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Banks, known affectionately as "Mr. Johnny," was a well-regarded member of his community. Born on April 27, 1968, in Nashville, North Carolina, he graduated from Northern Nash High School in 1986 ...
